Youth Ministry

Mission: To equip and encourage teens for lives of purity and purpose.

Youth Ministry is currently led by a team of dedicated members who love teens. (Yes, really.) They meet together weekly in the Youth Room, 9:15-10:15 a.m., for a lesson and discussion. Because many high school campuses are increasingly difficult places to live-out the Christian faith, lessons are focused on preparing teens for faithfulness to Christ and encouraging them to be willing to be different.

Summer Trip

Each summer, Zion's youth (grades 7-12) embark on a week-long trip of spiritual retreat and Christian service. It is often the highlight of the year for the youth, and it opens the door to deep reflection and tremendous growth. During the week away, there is time spent in Bible-reading and prayer, worship and recreation. A team of dedicated adults serve as youth leaders for the trip.

Past locations have included Michigan, Georgia, and New Jersey. For Summer 2020, we will be returning to Hume Christian Camps in Massachusetts. Middle schoolers will be at Hume from July 6 to July 11, high schoolers from July 20 to July 25. Registrations will begin in November 2019.

Nexus: High School Group

nexus: a connection linking two or more things; or, the central and most important point or place

In many churches, there is a long and inglorious tradition of middle-schoolers leaving the church shortly after Confirmation and not returning again (if at all) until young adulthood. The Nexus high school group is an answer to that problem. Meant to be a link between Confirmation and Adult Membership, the Nexus group meets off-campus monthly on a Sunday evening for food, fellowship, study and discussion. Occasional overnight retreats and college visits are also part of the ministry, the goal of which is to minister to teens at a critical juncture in their lives, helping them to make God-honoring decisions and to walk together in grace.
